  • Hiring People With Autism

This past year I've been approached by a few agencies about hiring people with Autism to help with managing/editing autisable.

I hope one day we will be able to do this, even if they are interns with potential for full time employment.

Our challenge isn't that we don't have the work - we have well over 500 articles that need preparing for the main page on any given day.

Our challenge is making sure that Autisable brings in enough traffic and revenue to ensure the possibility for full time employment.

We have grown exponentially these past couple of years, not just in traffic, but in recognition as a site that is rather unbiased (which is what I hope to keep it).

We have networked with the top organizations in North America, and are continuing our efforts to network with even more organizations around the world.

We want to provide jobs to people with Autism, in fact, we want to help the Autism Community in any way.

For now, we are encouraging people to just use the site and share their journey - and connect (friend/subscribe) to others on the site.

We also are encouraging businesses that help the Autism community to purchase ads on Autisable - and challenge them to get involved.

High and lofty goals?   Not really, but it's a start.

  • I Am In Here: Meeting Virginia Breen

Finding one's voice in society is enough of a challenge when you can speak.  What if you couldn't speak, couldn't say the words verbally?  What would you do then?

I had an opportunity last week when I was able to meet with Virginia Breen, co-author of the book, "I Am In Here".  An incredible book that intertwines the poetry and insight of her daughter, Elizabeth, along with the struggles she went through as a parent trying to figure things out on the journey of Autism.

But that my friend, is only part of the story....More Here...

  • Time to Expand - Advertising on Autisable

Autisable has been around now for about 3 years.

The first year we were focused on how to best serve the Autism Community, and finding content to share.

The second year was all about networking - which we still do to this day.  Thousands now blog on Autisable, sharing their journey with Autism and networking with one another.

This past year has been solidifying where we are at - adding another editor to help out with the site - and further establishing our community online.

We continue to do these things as our site grows, because we know that by serving the Autism Community - we are helping people worldwide.

We haven't focused on one thing, not because we didn't want to - but because it just wasn't the right timing.

However, now it's time to expand... More Here...

  • Enhancing the Facebook page... We're the First

I've spent some time learning and adapting to all the new features of facebook - or at least what I can figure out as things come up.

One thing I'd like to share is how Autism news stories, from news outlets, aren't easy to find or share.

Unless, of course, you have a local channel that may have the ability and know how to create a website where their content can be shared.

But let's be honest...who has the time to do all that?

  • 3 Organizations, 2 Months, 1 Purpose

As many of you know I lead a rather busy lifestyle.  Some have compared me to the Energizer bunny - as I just keep going, and going, and going....

Maybe it's the fact that when I sit still....wait... me sitting still?  Nah....

The bottom line is that I am a guy who thrives on Networking with people.  I enjoy it.

I love knowing there are talented people who are skilled at certain things, and there are other people needing specific talents to get things done.

Same is true within the Autism Community - I like unifying people and organizations for a common purpose, to discuss anything Autism related.

These past couple of months have been very busy, but very productive as well.

I was approached by the Autism Society on an idea on how they want to shift the focus on Autism - from Awareness, towards Understanding and Encouragement.

The reason for this is very simple - the general public is now more aware than ever before about Autism, but what they don't know is how complicated it can be.

This requires an extra level of understanding.  It also requires an extra level of encouragement to families and people who deal with Autism everyday.

Of course I agreed that this would be a great thing.   So, Autism Society and Autisable are now working together to change (shift) the discussion of Autism.  We worked on a script and with FPR studios to get this video produced:

We want to encourage people to create a video response, and submit it to the youtube channel: YouTalkAutism. We'd then include selected video responses into subsequent videos. After all, it's YouTalkAutism...not We Talk (we do that everyday anyways).

This promotional campaign launches today - and it dawned on me:  3 Organizations took a little over 2 months - but united for 1 purpose.   Now how cool is that?

Stay tuned to the main page...and to Autisable and Autism Societies facebook and twitter accounts.... this is going to fun.  Looking forward to what people put as video responses.
